The Life Sciences Industry relies heavily on scanning electron microscopy for a wide variety of applications from imaging tissue, bone, fungi and bugs. These samples typically charge up in the SEM and often require complex sample preparation techniques.
The ORION® PLUS helium ion microscope has the ability to image these samples in backscattered ion mode - eliminating the need for time-consuming sample preparation. In addition, the helium ions are so light that they do not damage the sample like a gallium ion FIB tool would.
Another significant advantage the helium ion microscope has over SEMs is its unparalleled depth of focus. Many life science applications require tremendous depth of focus. The helium ion microscope, because of its inherently simple optics design, has depth of focus more than 5 times larger than a typical scanning electron microscope, allowing you to see more of your sample in focus at the same time.
