| University of Southampton counts on Carl Zeiss SMT |
| |
The School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton has ordered three particle beam systems from Carl Zeiss SMT for its new Nanofabrication Centre in the just completed Mountbatton building. „The trio of instruments procured from Carl Zeiss is a vital element in giving the facility a novel cutting edge,“ said Professor Harvey Rutt, Head of the School of Electronics & Computer Science.

| The new Mountbatton building |
| |
| | Exactly three years after a catastrophic fire had destroyed the old Mountbatton site an imposing building has taken its place and was opened on October 29, 2008 to students and staff.
The new Mountbatten Building on the Highfield Campus occupies the same footprint as its predecessor, and is a substantial architectural triumph.
With staff and students now based in the building, fitting out of the clean rooms is under way to meet the extremely rigorous environmental conditions required for Nanoscale research. |
| |
The very heart of the building houses the Nanofabrication Centre, a state-of-the-art facility for nanofabrication and characterisation. Here, three particle beam systems from Carl Zeiss will soon be installed to support students and professors with their research work in a wide variety of applications:
EVO® 25 scanning electron microscope
NVision® 40 CrossBeam workstation (SEM/FIB)
ORION® Helium-Ion microscope
