Resounding success -
European CrossBeam®/ORION® Workshop
More than 150 scientists and researchers from all over Europe participated at the European CrossBeam® / ORION® workshop of Carl Zeiss SMT in late April 2009 in Dresden (Saxony, Germany). In several sessions the guests got an overview on latest product developments and new applications. Hot topic in the introductory session was the new AURIGA™ CrossBeam® Workstation and its huge application potential for numerous research projects as well as industrial development.

Special attention was then attracted by the ORION® Helium-Ion microscope session. The presentation of current research work from Conny Rodenberg of University of Sheffield, UK and
Frank Altmann from the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (Halle, Germany) with this technology unveiled a potential undreamt of and stunning application images.

In four subsequent sessions, a total of 14 presentations on R&D work using different tools from the CrossBeam® product family were given. Topics ranked from semiconductor applications to material analysis, from analysis of thin-film solar cells to fabrication of micro and nanodevices for biomedicine and many more.

Live product demos were given on the afternoon of the second workshop day. At the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research that acted as „Co-host“ of the meeting, participants could see demos of the LIBRA® 200 TEM and the NEON CrossBeam® Workstation. At the Carl Zeiss Innovation Center Dresden, the ORION® Helium-ion microscope and the CrossBeam® NVision 40 with Argon Ion Beam Option, were presented. A huge amount of customers took this opportunity to find out more about the use of these leading edge instruments.
