JENA/Germany, 14.12.2007.
The planetarium of the new education center in the Norwegian town of Sandnes is being equipped with a projector from Carl Zeiss. The planetarium projector of the type SKYMASTER ZKP 4 is coupled with a digital full-dome powerdomeŽ SPACEGATE projection system. In addition, Carl Zeiss is supplying a number of programs for all-dome projection which are focused on current topics from astronomy and space travel.

Sandnes is situated only 15 km from Stavanger, Norway’s fourth largest city, in the south of the country. Both towns have almost merged in the course of time. Against this background, a new regional education center is emerging in Sandnes aimed at introducing children and young people to the world of science and technology. The “Science Factory“, as the center will be called, is part of the activities planned by Stavanger as the 2008 European Capital of Culture and is scheduled to open its doors in May 2008.

The planetarium will present itself to its guests like a floating sphere in a glass palace. It forms the architectural and visitors’ center of the Science Factory, with exhibitions, auditoriums, library, workshops, restaurant and museum shop. The sphere accommodates 60 visitors. Carl Zeiss received an order for the entire technical equipment. This is only the third time this planetarium technology has been installed in Europe.
