Carl Zeiss SMT AG
ASML Holding NV

VELDHOVEN/The Netherlands, OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 07.04.2006.
ASML Holding NV (ASML) and Carl Zeiss SMT AG today announce that Martin van den Brink, ASML’s Executive Vice President, Marketing and Techno- logy; and Winfried Kaiser, Carl Zeiss SMT AGīs Vice President for Product Strategy, have together received the European SEMI Award 2006 during SEMI Europa, in recognition of their leadership in both development and global penetration of lithography technology.

The European SEMI Award recognizes significant contributions to the European semiconductor, microsystems and display industries by indivi- duals from companies, universities or research institutes. This marks the third time an ASML employee has won the award and the first award for Carl Zeiss SMT.

”I am very pleased to receive this award and honored to accept it on behalf of ASML’s many suppliers in Europe, as well as all valued partners throughout our technology network who helped ASML achieve global leadership,” van den Brink said.

”This award is a great honor for me as a representative of Carl Zeiss SMT, and a distinct recognition of the success of our strategic partnership with ASML,” Kaiser said.

Van den Brink’s contributions as a whole have helped advance the semiconductor industry from one process node to the next. This includes his role in developing modular lithography systems and ASML’s TWINSCAN™ platform, as well as demonstrating leadership in making decisions about the best technical options to support customers’ roadmaps. His combination of technological and marketing expertise has guided ASML’s rise to market-share leadership today, while securing a strategic lead in immersion lithography and keeping EUV on ASML’s roadmap.

Van den Brink has held several positions in engineering since joining the company in 1984. In his current position, he oversees the company’s R&D and marketing programs.

Kaiser joined Carl Zeiss in 1982 and has held various positions in optical design, system engineering and integration, optical metrology and interferometry. He has been vice president for product strategy in Carl Zeiss SMTīs Lithography Optics Division since October 2001. With an intense focus on customer benefit, Kaiser has strongly promoted optical lithography as an enabling technology for advancements in the chip-manufacturing process. In close cooperation with ASML, Kaiser pioneered the development of optical systems for high NA 248-nm lithography and for the introduction of 193-nm immersion lithography . He also played a leading role in spurring the development of optics for EUV technology.
