JENA/Germany, 10.08.2007.
Carl Zeiss took part in this year’s “DomeFest“ in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in which a wide variety of video projections for planetarium domes compete, with a contribution from designer Rocco Helmchen from the German town of Bottrop. His production “Chaoscapes“, which transports the audience into a world of abstract and ever- changing graphics to the accompaniment of atmospheric music, was honored with the “Domie Award“. The harmonious, appealing combination of seeing and hearing convinced the jury.
Carl Zeiss is not only engaged in equipping modern planetariums, but also supports its customers in matters concerning image composition and the provision of shows. “We would like to encourage movie-makers and artists to take part in this festival with their creative achievements“, says Wilfried Lang, Head of the Planetariums business unit at Carl Zeiss. "Carl Zeiss is now becoming increasingly involved in the digital dome market. We would like not only to offer our customers leading edge dome projection technology, but also aim to support them in the procurement of shows and show components as well as in the production of their own show contents.“
Every year during the “DomeFest“ in Albuquerque’s LodeStar Planetarium, firms and artists present their experiments with the new medium of full-dome projection. Creative artists, planetarium operators and planetarium technology manufacturers meet to discuss standards for dome projection and means, ways and tricks for show production, and to present new technological developments. Carl Zeiss has sponsored the festival since 2006 and this year presented the artistic creation of Rocco Helmchen, who took part in the “DomeFest“ for the first time, to the festival jury.
Visitors to the Long Night of the Sciences in Jena on 16 November 2007 will be able to see the award-winning, 6-minute show at Carl Zeiss on the Carl-Zeiss-Promenade. It will be shown in the Jena ZEISS Planetarium in addition to other selected presentations.
