Carl Zeiss has been involved in building activities in Oberkochen since October 2000. There, the world's most modern plant for lithography optics is being built in several phases. On a total area of 45,000 m³, a workforce of about 1,000 will, in the final stage of construction, manufacture lenses and lens mounts, and assemble these to lithography lenses. Optimum production conditions will provide the conditions for state-of-the-art optical systems which will achieve even higher resolutions for the exposure wavelengths 193 nm and, in the future, 157 nm. On December 7, 2001, the first building phase was officially inaugurated. About 150 employees will take up production by summer 2002. | | October 2000
