The Public and School Observatory of Drebach in the German Ore Mountains has existed in its present form since 1986, when it succeeded a school observatory set up in 1969. Present facilities include a 500mm reflector telescope. A SKYMASTER ZKP 3 machine in an extension building has been set into operation in 2001. The prime concern of the Drebach Observatory are planetarium shows devoted to teaching astronomy, apart from public observation nights.
