The Bochum Observatory with its astronomical telescopes and its planetarium is a science center providing education and information on all subjects related to astronomy and astronautics. Situated amidst the densely populated Ruhr district, the Bochum Planetarium is one of the region's cultural attractions. The first Zeiss Model IV star projector has been replaced with a new ZEISS UNIVERSARIUM Mark IX, which provides an expanded scope of presentation capabilities and star projections of enormously increased brilliance. After comprehensive modernization including the integration of a Carl Zeiss powerdomeŽVELVET fulldome system, the Bochum Planetarium reopened on May 4th, 2010.
