The big draw at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937 was the Universal Large-dome Planetarium of Carl Zeiss Jena. 60 years later, on December 11, 1997, public shows were resumed with an entirely new planetarium projector, the STARMASTER ZMP. Planetarium director Dr. Denis Savoie is enthusiastic about the projector: "The new Carl Zeiss STARMASTER planetarium is an extraordinary instrument, not only with regard to the extraordinary quality of rendering the starry sky and the celestial motions, but also with regard to its great user-friendliness."
The Palais de la découverte in the center of Paris is believed to be visited by every child in France. Located close to the Champs Élysées, the "palace of discoveries" is one of the most important centers of knowledge dissemination in France. The planetarium shows attract audiences totaling over 220,000 per year. It is remarkable to note that almost all shows are live presentations with the starry sky as the main feature. |
