Bays Mountain Planetarium
Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is pleased to have the opportunity to refurbish its 12 meter planetarium theater. Its current planetarium has served for over 30 years. With the desire to leap into the 21st century, the planetarium people have decided to do the refurbishment with great zeal. A custom, 5.1 sound system will allow to add another dimension to the experience. The heart of the new theater will be a Zeiss SKYMASTER ZKP 4 optical star projector for those incredible star images and a powerdomeŽSPACEGATE Quinto full-dome projection system. Adam Thanz, Planetarium Director, and his colleague Jason Dorfman are really excited with the huge potential of this system. Not only will it have a "wow" factor, but will allow much better educational opportunities to understand difficult spatial concepts.
The team of the Bays Mountain Planetarium has always created its own shows. It is facing the future with some slight trepidation as it will need to learn a whole new system and a new way of producing content. But, they feel confident that not only will they be able to overcome that hurdle, but be able to provide a richer experience for their patrons.

Who is that Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium? The park is owned and operated by the City of Kingsport and is designed to provide a natural setting for its citizens and visitors alike. The mission is to educate about the natural sciences and to provide a sanctuary of peace. The hub of the park is the Nature Center where the planetarium theater is as well as exhibits, a classroom, a gift shop and fresh water aquaria.
