From the decision made by the La Hague district council to the erection of a tourist center with observatory and planetarium and on to the inauguration on May 4th, 2000, this planetarium project was completed in less than four years. The building stands 180 m above sea level on the Flottemanville-Tonneville plateau on the Cotentin peninsula, a region where exceptionally clean air provides good visibility.
The facility is small in size, but great in performance, boasting a 600mm reflector telescope and a Zeiss SKYMASTER planetarium. There is equipment for weather observation and weather image reception; a well-designed exhibition introduces visitors to astronomy, and modern media support the goal of making science an adventure.
LUDIVER, a facility unique for the region, is reckoned to attract 45,000 visitors per year.
