In 1983, Bodil and Helge Pedersen donated 50 million Dkr for the establishment of a planetarium in Copenhagen. The Tycho Brahe Planetarium was finally built between 1987 and 1989. The 38 m high building, designed by the architect Knud Munk, is situated on the bank of Lake St. Jørgen in the city center.
Planetarium shows are usually presented in the morning, whereas afternoon and night hours are the time for IMAX movies.
