Fulldome Systems
Fulldome and Planetarium
Fulldome adds new perspectives to the planetarium
The fulldome technology uses the entire dome surface for the projection of digital imagery. The audience is immersed in virtual worlds, in spaces they could never enter physically. While the optical-mechanical planetarium simulates the perspective of the earth-bound sky watcher as no other system can do, fulldome adds the third dimension. Visualizing current astronomical data, it illustrates the universe in a convincing, intelligible way. Never before have planetarium visitors been able to get a more vivid impression of the universe.

Carl Zeiss brakes new ground
Carl Zeiss has set planetarium standards with the design of the first projection machines. Most of them are still valid. With the advent of digital displays for fulldome, the initial features of immersion and real-time presentations reach an entirely new level. Among all competitors, Carl Zeiss offers a comprehensive and heighest-quality range of systems for optical-mechanical and digital dome projection. Carl Zeiss again broke new ground with the development of new projection technologies for domes and creates top prerequisites to combine opto-mechanical with digital projections implementing its powerdomeŽImageGenerator and newly developed fulldome projection systems.

powerdomeŽPlanetariums
Under the brandname of powerdomeŽ, Carl Zeiss offers fulldome systems, with or without combination with an optical-mechanical planetarium projector. The powerdome systems incorporate in-house products as well as third-party projectors. They are all controlled by the common powerdome platform. This platform is designed to couple digital fulldome projection with optical-mechanical planetarium projectors and to control both via a classical control panel. Both systems can be used jointly in astronomy shows, still the most important subject matter in a planetarium.
