Few people will remember that Mannheim (Germany) opened a planetarium as early as 1927. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed in World War II.
Only several decades later, in 1984, a star theater opened to the public again. The building is akin to that of the Stuttgart planetarium, which is no wonder, as both were designed by the same architect.
The Mannheim Planetarium is run as a non-profit private limited company, a business form that has worked successfully with other planetaria as well.
After almost 20 years of uninterrupted operation with a Mark VI projector, a UNIVERSARIUM Mark IX system was installed in 2002.
